The Connecticut Department of Transportation announced the start of the widening of Interstate 95 between Exit 14 and 15 and improvements to Route 1 in Norwalk. Construction activities began on June 8, 2012.

The I95 exit 14, 15 and US1 Improvement Project will provide an Operational Lane on I-95 between the interchanges.  As part of the widening, three (3) bridges; Fairfield Avenue, Cedar Street, and Taylor Avenue, will be replaced and widened over I-95.  This Project will also increase the drainage throughout the area and improve Route 1 including widening, paving, drainage, and traffic signal upgrades.

The Contract was awarded on April 24, 2012, at a cost of $42,330,340.41 and is scheduled for completion Spring 2016.

Construction activities started on June 8, 2012.  Motorist should be aware that periodic lane closures will occur.  Variable message signs on Interstate 95 will be utilized to advise motorists of traffic conditions in the area.

Motorists should be aware that modifications or extensions to this schedule may become necessary due to weather delays or other unforeseen conditions.

The project will be milling and resurfacing Route 1 beginning the week of May 9th.

This work will be done in sections and will take about 2 weeks, weather permitting.

Rotating lane closures in both directions should be expected throughout this

portion of the construction.  Motorists should be aware when driving through the

area and consider alternate routes to avoid delays.

Daily Route 1 lane closures will continue at various locations within the Project

weekdays between 7:00am and 3:00pm.  When night work is necessary, the lane closure

hours weekdays are between 8:00pm and 5:00am.
